Philosophy

As a "very" small farm, we strongly believe in supporting other small farms, and choosing our ingredients according to the mantra "Buy Fresh, Buy Local" . The ingredients we cannot buy locally are chosen, where possible, to come from organic and fair trade sources.

The honey, beeswax, and many of the herbs we use are produced here at Brushwood Farm. Our goats milk, lard and tallow come from other small farms here in central PA.

Although we produce a few vegan soaps, we prefer to use animal oils in our soaps, both for their conditioning properties, and to make a conscious statement in favor of locally sourced ingredients over those from places where environmental and human rights concerns don't get in the way of profit.
